This past Sunday evening Gus offered to take the girls swimming again at his sister's house. Not wanting to be bored, I decided that I would join them in the pool for the first time. Gus and I had never gone swimming together so he has no idea what kind of a swimmer I was. As we were driving to his sister's house I expected to see the same people when we arrived: his sister, her husband, and their three children. But that was not the case at all. When we were arriving at their house Gus told me that his sister's husband's whole family was there and that they're TJ'd out (Tijuana style). I was horrified. I couldn't believe that I was going to be the only white person in a crowd, which is a situation I'm never comfortable with. It was too late to turn back.
I entered the backyard of the house and found a good size party going on. It had all the makings of Mexico to it, even soccer in Spanish was playing on the TV. Gus introduced me to everyone. They were all very nice people and to my surprise most of them spoke English. After Gus did his ghetto dive into the pool, Heidi and Trudi were handed to him as he sat on the step. Then I dove in. I hadn't swam since last summer and the water felt great. It was also fun to swim with my family. I thought it was pretty funny how intimidated Gus was of my "professional" swimming. Thanks Julie for teaching me how to dive when I was young!

Hahaha! Did I teach you to swim at Nancy's old pool or Nan's house? Both were completely memorable in so many ways.
Was the party like the ones behind our house on Radford, where they'd roast a pig and have all that loud music? To think you'd someday grow up and party like that. Ha!! So long whitie, hello Chicana! :-)
